Barbara Boxer is going to be announcing legislation today to reportedly tax bonuses received by Wall Street Executives who took TARP money.
Boxer’s tax proposal is clearly an election year effort to garner headlines. Of course it’s no shock she would propose this. Tax increases are Barbara Boxer’s solution to everything; it’s a habit of mind and shows a serious lack of imagination. Where was she back in 2008 when as a U.S. Senator she could have demanded that TARP include a provision to prevent these kinds of bonuses in the first place?
Boxer is also circulating her opening remarks to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee that tout her newfound interest in job creation. Oh the irony is rich here since as the chairwoman of that committee she could push through an amendment to get water flowing in California’s Central Valley. This action would get some of the 40,000 people out of work in the region back on the job. She voted for something similar for the state of New Mexico, but now refuses to do it for California. Not to mention her current push for the Cap and Trade bill that will cost Americans 2.5 million jobs.
